Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Scarify seeds lightly by rubbing them with sandpaper or nicking them with a knife to help break the seed coat and improve germination rates. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to further enhance germination.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed trays or pots filled with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Maintain a soil temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C) for optimal germination.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 2-4 weeks under optimal conditions. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost date and when they are at least 4-6 inches tall. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week. Space plants 24-30 inches apart in well-drained soil and in a location that receives full sun to partial shade.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Mulch around the base of the plants to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Prune back any dead or damaged foliage to maintain plant health and encourage new growth.
