Product Details:
Meconopsis Superba is a beautiful flowering plant ideal for shaded areas. This perennial blooms with vibrant flowers and typically grows to 12-18 inches in height. It thrives in cool, damp conditions and is perfect for adding color and texture to shade gardens or woodland settings. The plant is perfect for mixed borders or as a focal point in shaded beds.
Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation: No special preparation is required, but cold stratification can improve germination. To do so, place seeds in a damp paper towel in the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks before sowing.
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Fill seed trays with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sprinkle seeds on the surface of the soil and lightly press them down. Do not cover the seeds with soil as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
Germination: Seeds typically germinate within 2-4 weeks at a temperature of 60-70°F (15-21°C). Ensure the seed trays are in a cool, bright location or under grow lights.
Transplanting: Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost date when they have developed 2-3 sets of true leaves. Gradually harden off seedlings by exposing them to outdoor conditions over the course of a week. Plant seedlings 12-18 inches apart in a shaded or partially shaded location.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Meconopsis plants prefer cool, damp conditions. Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Protect the plants from extreme heat and dry conditions, and consider providing shade during the hottest part of the day.
