Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12-24 hours to soften the seed coat and promote faster germination.
Sowing:
Sow seeds on the surface of a seed-starting mix and gently press them into the soil. Do not bury them deeply. Use seed trays or small pots with good drainage. Cover the seeds lightly with a thin layer of soil or vermiculite.
Germination:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Maintain a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for optimal germination. Germination can take 2-6 weeks, depending on conditions. Provide indirect light or a grow light to ensure 12-14 hours of light per day.
Transplanting:
Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and are large enough to handle, they can be transplanted. Transplant into individual pots or into a suitable location in the garden with indirect light. Ensure the new pots or planting location have well-draining soil.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering and waterlogged conditions. Maintain high humidity levels, especially for indoor plants. Use a humidifier or place the pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water. Prune dead or yellowing leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain appearance. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes, as Calathea plants prefer stable, warm environments.
